LEGAL AID BILLING CO-ORDINATOR – Walsall Office

Are you detail orientated with a passion for supporting legal processes?  We are seeking a permanent, full time Legal Aid Billing Assistant to join our team.  This role is ideal for someone who has experience of legal aid or as a legal cashier.

As a Legal Aid billing assistant, you will:

  • Oversee claim processes for disbursements and invoices from Experts to the Legal Aid Agency  (LAA)  for the Family/Care Department;

  • Prepare and submit claims for payment on account (POA) to support 3 monthly billing processes; 

  • Process final, appeal and adjustment bills prepared by Costs Draftsman; 

  • Submit COP court assessed bills on e-filing;

  • Resolve accounts ledger queries in relation to billing; 

  • Reconcile Legal Aid Statements, including posting bills and accurate allocation of costs; 

  • Act as point of contact for the Legal Aid Agency and between the family/care departmental staff as needed; 

  • Act as point of contact for the external cost draftsman;

  • Undertake intermittent cost checks;

  • Be responsible for the monthly submission of the mental health and family fixed fee (legal help) bills; and

  • Prepare and submit intermittent exceptional mental health legal help bills.

The position is fully office based and full time, Monday to Friday 9. am to 5.pm with 1 hour lunch We offer a salary commensurate with experience and excellent working condition

VACANCY - STAR LEGAL SOLICITORS

Star Legal solicitors are seeking to recruit 2 solicitors and/or experienced case workers to join a strong reputable team within the West Midlands. 

  1. A Mental Health Solicitor or case worker who is Panel Accredited.  Supervisor status is desirable but not essential
  2. A Health and Welfare Court of Protection solicitor or case worker, with experience of Court of Protection cases and knowledge and experience of legal aid regulations.  Accredited Legal Representative/Mental Capacity Panel accreditation is desirable but not essential

Star Legal's Clifton Branch is seeking applications for the following jobs:

Residential Conveyancing Secretary

We are looking for a full-time Residential Conveyancing Secretary to join the conveyancing team in our Clifton office. This role is perfect for someone who has gained some legal experience already and is looking for a new opportunity within the Bristol area.


You will need to have good IT skills and should be familiar with the Microsoft Office suite of applications. The ideal candidate will need to have good communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrate excellent client care. A professional telephone manner and attention to detail is essential. 


You will need to be organised, accurate, proactive, computer literate and able to meet deadlines while remaining calm under pressure.


The key responsibilities for this role will include:


•    Generating new conveyancing quotations
•    Following AML and on-boarding procedures
•    Opening new files on our case management system
•    Producing Client Engagement letters and new client packs
•    Dealing with correspondence with clients, agents, lenders, landlords and solicitors
•    Ordering conveyancing searches
•    Using the Land Registry Portal
•    Answering telephones and updating clients, agents, lenders and solicitors
•    Post completion work for purchases
•    Covering reception (when required)

Star Legal's Abergavenny Branch is seeking applications for the following jobs:

Private Client CILEx/paralegal Star Legal Abergavenny

Excellent opportunity for an experienced Private Client CILEX or experienced paralegal to join a well-established private client department. This role reports to the Legal Director and Head of Private Client (Wills and Probate) in Abergavenny.

Star Legal's Wokingham Branch is seeking applications for the following jobs:

Residential Property Solicitor/Head of Office

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced residential property Solicitor, Licensed Conveyancer or Chartered Legal Executive to join our Wokingham office on a full-time basis. The role will also be to perform the Head of Office position.

The successful applicant will:

·        ideally have recent experience working in Wokingham and/or Berkshire;

·        have a proven track record in building excellent relationships with local estate agents and referrers of work;

·        have very strong technical skills, excellent client care and a collaborative, team-based approach to working;

·        have a proven track record in managing workloads to achieve financial targets; and

·        be comfortable with adhering to compliance, policies and internal systems.

The successful applicant will need to have at least 5 years PQE in residential property and an efficient and well organized approach to managing client work.  You will have a professional, friendly and reassuring approach to dealing with clients, as well as the ability to work to tight deadlines and to prioritize work.

Strong IT skills using Microsoft Office are essential and prior experience of using case management systems is required.

Star Legal's Swindon Branch is seeking applications for the following jobs:

Part Time Litigation Fee Earner

The Swindon office of Star legal require a part time litigator to deal with a general civil litigation case load to help out a partner who has a very busy case load. These are  principally contractual claims, negligence and some simple construction and possession actions. You will need to be at least a two year qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive or an experienced paralegal able to deal with your own case load, work to deadlines and hit targets.

The position could be self-employed or salaried. Remuneration will be at least market rate dependent upon experience with a performance bonus for exceeding targets. We are looking for someone to work 2-3 days per week and provide holiday cover if required.

We envisage the role will be hybrid or flexible mostly working from home with occasional days in the office or in Court. It would be helpful if you lived within reasonable travelling distance of North Wiltshire to facilitate this.

Due to expansion, our Walsall office is looking for an experienced Court of Protection Solicitor to join our busy Mental Health department, dealing mainly with legal aid cases concerning health and welfare decisions. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act would be welcomed but not essential.
