If you are moving jobs to a competitor or even starting your own business in the same field your contract of employment may contain restrictions which seek to prevent you being in competition or contacting customers for a period of time. In addition you owe a duty of loyalty while being employed by a firm which severely restricts certain competitive activities while you are employed and a duty of confidentiality which will survive the termination of your employment.
